ANZAC Day at Geebung RSL: A Community United in Remembrance

Each year on 25 April, the Geebung Zillmere Bald Hills Aspley RSL Sub-Branch brings together veterans, serving Defence personnel, families and local residents to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who have served Australia.

ANZAC Day has been part of the Geebung community’s history since the original Geebung Memorial Hall opened in 1923. More than a century later, that tradition of remembrance continues.

Remembering Together Across Brisbane’s Northside

In 2026, the Sub-Branch’s ANZAC Day commemorative program included services at several locations across Brisbane’s northern suburbs.

These included the Geebung RSL Memorial Wall, O’Callaghan Park in Zillmere, Aspley Hornets Football Club in Carseldine, Pinnaroo Lawn Cemetery in Bridgeman Downs and Bald Hills Memorial Hall.

At Geebung RSL, the Dawn Service provided an opportunity to gather in the early morning to reflect on the sacrifice of Australian servicemen and women. The service was followed by a Gunfire Breakfast, continuing a longstanding ANZAC tradition of bringing veterans and the community together.

Honouring Every Generation of Service

ANZAC Day is an opportunity to remember not only those who served at Gallipoli in 1915, but all Australians who have served in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

Through the laying of wreaths, the sounding of the Last Post and moments of silence, commemorative ceremonies provide time for personal reflection and collective remembrance. They also offer an opportunity for younger generations to learn about the sacrifices made by those who came before them.

Continuing the Tradition of Remembrance

For the Geebung RSL Sub-Branch, commemoration is a responsibility carried throughout the year. Alongside ANZAC Day, the Sub-Branch supports Remembrance Day, Vietnam Veterans Day, Kapyong Day and services recognising those who served in East Timor, Afghanistan and Iraq.

We encourage members of the community to participate in future commemorative services and help ensure the stories of Australia’s veterans are never forgotten.
